Plazandreok is an association of women who wish to add our voice to politics. For us politics means, above all, the responsibility of managing community issues. Our principal objectives are: to participate in politics by representing ourselves; to raise so called "personal" issues to the category of "public" and to bring to society our way of doing politics.
Plazandreok is a plural platform, made up of women who prize what unites us rather than what separates us. Our organizational structure is horizontal and assembly based, and decisions are made by consensus because for us it is important to include minority opinions and to move ahead together from a common meeting ground. We strive to be an alternative to present political parties which are marked by a hierarchical structures and excessive professionalization. Not wanting to create professional politicians, we propose rotation of posts of responsibility.
Traditionally, womens activities have consisted of meeting the needs of others and making life possible. However, the perspective, opinions, experiences, wisdom, culture and way of doing things characteristic of women is absent in political life. One supposes that political representation strives to be universal; however, the directors are, in their majority, men, and women are not represented in the decision making centers of society.
The absence of women in the political sphere negatively affects the perception which is held towards all women in society. The image which is held of women is lacking due to our scarce presence in positions of political power. A greater number of women participating in political institutions would contribute to changing the social value of women in general. The equal presence of women will foment social respect and reduce the times when we are denigrated and denied our condition as persons.
The lives of women are different from those of men given the fact that the obligations and activities which we carry out are determined according to our sex. For that reason the representation of women can only be carried out by women themselves and in that way our participation would incorporate into the culture a different kind of politics.
Any democratic system of political organization should include the voice of everyone who lives in the society. We constitute half of the population and we have the right to be represented in the institutions where decisions which affect our lives are made. We demand to be first class citizens and we have the right to participate in the definition of those rights -- rights which correspond to each and every person. We want, therefore, to be a part of the institutions: we have gotten the right to vote, now we want to get the right to be voted for and elected.
